Edington rests upon the low, firm ground of the Polden Hills, overlooking the expansive, marshy horizons of the Somerset Levels. It lies 5.9 miles east-north-east of Bridgwater (from Bridgwater: bearing 72°T, OS grid ST 387 397), and is situated west-north-west of Catcott village. To the north, the damp, peat-rich expanse of the Catcott Edington And Chilton Moors Sssi stretches toward the sky, catching the pale, bruised light of late afternoon. The land here holds a quiet intensity, where the ancient, dark waters of Nidon Brook trace their path through the flat, reclaimed pastures. Stone cottages in Edington favour the local blue lias, their walls absorbing the damp chill that rises when the mist rolls off the moors. History feels heavy and physical, marked by the proximity of prehistoric wooden trackways buried deep beneath the surface of the neighbouring peat bogs. The horizon is defined by the sharp, rhythmic rise of the hills and the sudden, flat silence of the wetlands.
