It lies 2.0 miles east-south-east of Taunton (from Taunton: bearing 102°T, OS grid ST 255 236), and is situated north-north-west of Stoke St Mary village. The terrain here rises with a modest, deliberate grace, influenced by the presence of Stoke Hill to the south-east which commands the horizon with its verdant, rounded bulk.
