It lies 2.8 miles south-east of Sheffield (from Sheffield: bearing 143°T, OS grid SK 382 838), and is situated north-west of Highlane village. The terrain here rises sharply, granting Gleadless a vantage point where the wind carries a crisp, unadorned clarity across the rooftops. To the west, the deep indentation of Gleadless Valley carves a verdant passage through the landscape, separating the suburban rows from the encroaching wilder greenery.
