A short distance away, the ancient waters of St Edith’s Well rest in a silence that seems to predate the surrounding farmsteads. The land rolls away toward the distant horizon, marked by the faint, dark lines of hedgerows that guard the edges of High Onn against the prevailing winds. Further afield, the damp, rich earth of the Mottey Meadows SSSI supports a fragile, teeming life that remains largely indifferent to the passing of modern time.
