High above the modern thoroughfares, the Holy Austin Rock Houses remain as curious, subterranean monuments to a time when the boundary between geology and architecture blurred. Kinver retains a quiet gravity, its streets tracking the movement of the River Stour as it winds through the low-lying meadows. A short distance away, the Iron Age ramparts of Kinver Camp crown the high ground, a silent witness to a landscape that has long prioritised the sturdy over the ornate. The light here seems to catch on the iron-rich soil, turning the afternoon shadows into long, bruised ribbons of violet and ochre.
