It lies 2.9 miles east-north-east of Chichester (from Chichester: bearing 70°T, OS grid SU 904 064), and is situated south-south-west of Boxgrove village. The earth here is heavy and fertile, holding the dampness of the Oving Rife as it winds sluggishly toward the sea, carving a vein through the flat, reclaimed fields. A singular sense of stillness clings to the air, broken only by the sharp, metallic ghosts of the past that linger near the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum. This site, once a crucible of aerial defence, now guards the memory of wings that cleaved the clouds above these very acres. To the north, the weathered, grey bones of Boxgrove Priory rise against the skyline, offering a quiet, stony counterpoint to the flat expanse of the surrounding farmland. The wind often carries the salt-scent of the English Channel, brushing across the open ground and polishing the dark, hedgerow-bound lanes.
