Clough Foot occupies a rugged stretch of the Calderdale district where the land begins to rise sharply toward the high Pennine spine. It lies 1.9 miles west of Todmorden (from Todmorden: bearing 266°T, OS grid SD 905 239), and is situated east of Sharneyford village. The valley floor here is carved by the persistent movement of Midgelden Brook, which flows with a cold, insistent clarity just south of the houses. Above the brook, the steep slopes of Flower Scar Hill catch the shifting light of the West Yorkshire sky, turning from a bruised purple to a pale, metallic gold as the clouds drift eastward. The remnants of industry and grit persist in the stone walls that track the hillsides, marking out boundaries against an unforgiving terrain. To the north, the hidden hollow of Acre Nook Clough offers a quiet retreat where the wind loses its sharp edge against the bracken and rough grass. Clough Foot remains a place defined by the weight of the hills and the constant, audible presence of water carving its own path through the rock.
