Cadley emerges from the verdant, rolling folds of the Wiltshire landscape like a quiet secret kept by the earth itself. It lies 2.1 miles south-east of Marlborough (from Marlborough: bearing 145°T, OS grid SU 207 664), and is situated south of Mildenhall village. The hamlet resides deep within the ancient, sprawling embrace of the Savernake Forest SSSI, where the morning light catches the gnarled bark of centuries-old timber. To the north-west, the rise of Snail Hill disrupts the horizon, offering a subtle elevation that commands a view of the surrounding woods. Cadley remains tethered to this woodland identity, defined by the shifting shadows of broadleaf canopies that have stood since long before the modern turn of the century. The air here holds a peculiar, damp stillness, carrying the scent of leaf mould and the damp stone of the nearby Great Lodge Bottom.
