How to Use This Emilia-Romagna, Emilia-Romagna Map / Come usare questa carta

This interactive map shows the street layout and satellite imagery for Emilia-Romagna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial photography. Use the + and − buttons to zoom, or hold the Control key while scrolling the mouse wheel. On a touchscreen, pinch with two fingers. Drag the map to pan anywhere in Emilia-Romagna or beyond.

Street View. Drag the small figure from the bottom right of the map onto any road to drop into a 360° view at ground level. Click the arrows along the road to move along it, drag to look around, and press Escape or the back arrow to return to the map.

Click ⛶ Fullscreen to expand the map to fill the screen. To go back, press Escape, click ✕ Exit Fullscreen above the map, or on a phone tap the back button (Android) or the close icon (iOS).

SEARCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map opens a second, independent map on OpenStreetMap coverage of the whole country. Its search box finds any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Emilia-Romagna.

Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.

Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

About Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna stretches from the Apennine ridge towards the horizon, where the Po flows through flat mist and poplar lines. Irrigation ditches rule the fields, feeding a landscape of parmesan dairies and prosciutto lofts. The region encompasses nine provinces: Piacenza, Parma, Reggio nell'Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena, and Rimini. In the cities, arcaded brick streets capture a peculiar, golden quality of light, while the air carries the scent of stone and history. From the Byzantine gold of Ravenna to the ranked beach huts along the coast, the land is a vast, interconnected network of over three hundred comuni, each holding its own resonance within the wider geography of the Po Valley.

Bologna serves as the heart of the region, anchored by the Archiginnasio of Bologna and the Basilica of San Petronio. Visitors walk through the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Peter, the Church of San Domenico, or the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore to feel the weight of a city that once stood as a vital administrative center. The urban rhythm is steady, defined by porticoes that protect residents from the elements. Nearby, Parma offers a different grace, marked by the Valserena Abbey, the Parma Baptistery, and the Camera di San Paolo. The Church of Santa Maria della Steccata and the Citadel of Parma stand as reminders of a time when duchies shaped the local identity through architecture and patronage.

Modena and Reggio nell'Emilia maintain their own distinctive characters, rooted in the legacy of past rulers. In Modena, the Duomo of Modena and the Galleria Estense draw the eye, while the Church of San Francesco, the Church of Sant'Agostino, and the Spezzano Castle stand as silent witnesses to the shifting fortunes of the region. Reggio nell'Emilia holds the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin of Ghiara and the Basilica of San Prospero, alongside the Bianello Castle, the Reggio Emilia Cathedral, and the Church of Saint Peter the Apostle. These structures are not mere monuments but the foundation of the civic life that has persisted through the centuries of unification and the costs that followed.

Historically, this land has served as a frontier fought over by competing powers, evolving from a Roman province into a complex mosaic of independent entities. The local economy remains deeply tied to its industrial and agricultural roots, mirroring the resilience of its people. Whether in the textile workshops or the fields, there is a grounded focus on the present. The legacy of the Resistance remains a quiet, sober part of the regional identity, reflected in the dignity of its towns. As the Apennines slope toward Tuscany, the region retains a firm hold on its customs, ensuring that the character of its people remains as enduring as the brickwork of its historic centers.

About This Emilia-Romagna Map Page / Informazioni su questa pagina

Explore Emilia-Romagna, Italy, Italy, with a Google street and satellite map — switch between the two with the buttons on the map. Street View gives a ground-level view along the roads. Coordinates: 44.5318, 11.0087. Place names, the comune and provincia hierarchy and the population come from Istat: the administrative boundaries of 1 January 2026 and the 2021 census of inhabited localities. Local and world news feeds keep the page current, and the bilingual description is written from the data this site holds rather than copied from elsewhere. This hub links to each of the 9 province of the region and to 5,881 place maps.

Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.

There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
